Description
Ostrvica Viewpoint Ostrvica is a volcanic elevation within the Rudnica massif, which dominates the villages of Varnice, Zagađe, Dragolj and Trudelj in the municipality of Gornji Milanovac. The altitude of the peak is 758 meters. By origin, this peak is the remnant of a devastating volcanic coupe. Ostrvica is also a medieval fortress, the remains of which are located on the peak of the same name, in the village of Varnice. Thanks to its shape and location, Ostrvica was important in the Middle Ages, because there was a military fortification on it, the remains of which can be seen at the very top of the mountain. Legend has it that the fort was built by Cursed Jerina, who died in the nearby Rudnik fort. Vrh Ostrvica was declared a natural monument in 2009. In the sources, it appears for the first time after the death of the Serbian king Milutin, when the merchants from Dubrovnik, who stayed in the neighboring fortress Rudnik, took refuge in the fortress.
