Jezero Zaovine

Lake Zaovine This artificial lake is located near Zaovine on Mount Tara and belongs to the municipality of Bajina Bašta. It extends towards the Zvjezda mountain and the village of Mitrovac. This part of Tara is known as Ravna Tara. The clean water of Lake Zaovina, which is also used for drinking with minimal processing, attracts bathers, fishermen and families on vacation every year. It belongs to Tara National Park. Creation of Lake Zaovine The lake was created between 1975 and 1983. Its creation was influenced by the dam on the Beli Vrzav river, which was placed near the Kik peak. It extends at an altitude of 881.5 meters and the greatest depth it reaches is 110 meters. It is connected by a vertical pipeline to the "Bajina Bašta" hydroelectric plant in Perućac. The level of the lake often fluctuates a lot as it is used to turn the turbines in case of low growth of the Drina or receives water directly in case of high growth and floods.
