Uvac Monastery The Uvac Monastery is located 25 kilometers southwest of Zlatibor on the border between the municipalities of Čajetine and Priboj in the village of Stublo. The monastery is located in the canyon of the river Uvac, which is a special nature reserve and abounds in beautiful lakes, caves, centuries-old forests, rare plants and animals. Uvac Monastery was built in the 13th century. century as a sort of barrier to the Bogomil heresy and encroaching Islam. This medieval monastery is the endowment of Nemanjić, and information from a church book from 1622 testifies that this building is dedicated to the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Once upon a time, the Uvac monastery was essential for the survival of the Orthodox population in this picturesque valley. It was destroyed in the first decades of the 18th century, when the places of worship in Stari Vlach and Serbia were burned and destroyed.
