Bavanište Monastery Bavanište Monastery According to tradition, the monastery was built during the rebellion of the Banat Serbs (1594) against Turkish tyranny under the leadership of the bishop of Vršac Teodor Nestorović. It is located in the forest in order to be protected from the invasion of the Turks. In 1716, it was burned, as well as the entire village. The people fled in 1776. returns and builds a temple in the center of the village, which was burned by the Turks after 12 years. In 1790, the Orthodox community rebuilt the temple, which is still in the same place today. In 1857, a water chapel was built on the site of the burned down monastery (water springs up from under the church-chapel itself). In the period when the original monastery was demolished, until the construction of the new chapel, the people did not stop coming to Vodica to pray for spiritual and physical healing.
