Manastir Velika Remeta

Velika Remeta Monastery Velika Remeta Monastery is located on the eastern slopes of Fruška Gora, near the Velika Remeta settlement and on the territory of the municipality of Irig. It is dedicated to Saint Demetrius and belongs to the group of Fruška Gora monasteries of exceptional cultural and spiritual importance. The exact time of establishment has not been reliably determined. It is believed that the monastery was founded in the 15th century. century, while tradition connects him with King Dragutin or King Milutin. The monastery church was later given a baroque look, and between 1733 and 1735, a 38.6-meter-high bell tower was built next to it, which is considered the tallest in Srem. The complex was badly damaged during the Second World War, and was later rebuilt. Today it consists of a church surrounded by lodgings, a landscaped yard and two chapels. The peaceful forest environment makes it suitable for religious visits and short excursions.
