Description
Archaeological Park of Mediana Mediana is a luxurious suburb of the ancient city of Naisus (today's Niš), which was built at the end of the 3rd and the beginning of the 4th century during the reign of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great and his successors. Today, Medijana is one of the most important archaeological parks in Serbia, where on an area of 40 hectares you can see the remains of a luxurious villa with a peristyle, the remains of two early Christian churches, parts of a granary, military barracks and water towers. Visitors can also see more than 1,000 square meters worth of floor mosaics, which evoke some of the opulence of this unique imperial residence. The median was built on the left bank of Nišava, next to one of the most important road routes, the Via militaris. It was located between urban Naisus and the thermal springs of Niška Banja and occupied an area of over 40 hectares.
