Manastir Novo Hopovo

Novo Hopovo Monastery The Novo Hopovo Monastery is located on Fruška Gora, not far from Iriga, and is one of the most important monasteries in Fruška Gora. According to tradition, it was founded by the despot Đorđe Branković, later Bishop Maxim, while the present church of St. Nicholas was built in 1576. The monastery was an important spiritual, cultural and educational center for centuries. It has been in it since 1757. until 1760, Dositej Obradović lived and became a monk. Of special value are the monumental frescoes, the architecture of the temple and the relics of Saint Theodore Tiron, which are kept in the monastery church. Novo Hopovo was badly damaged during the Second World War, but was later rebuilt. Today it has the status of a cultural monument of exceptional importance and is easily accessible by road between Iriga and Iriški venc.
