Avalski Toranj

Avala Tower At the top of Avala, the first television tower was erected in 1965 and quickly became one of the most impressive symbols of Yugoslavia at the time. A little over 202 meters high, this elegant building was known not only for its function, but also for its unique architectural solution – it had a section in the form of an equilateral triangle, inspired by the traditional Serbian seating tripod. The tower was designed during five years of work by a team led by architects Uglješa Bogunović and Slobodan Janjić, with the design expertise of academician Milan Krstić. Construction works were carried out by the company "Rad" from Belgrade. Although the tower appeared slender, it was extremely resistant to weather conditions, and was recorded to sway up to one meter in diameter in strong winds. Unfortunately, during the NATO bombing in 1999, on the 29
