# 🏥 Medicine in Serbia - Practical Guide to Insurance and Medical Services

## Medical insurance for visas: what you need to know

### What is required from the insurance

- Minimum limit - 30 000 EUR (Schengen).
- Insurer - registered in Serbia.
- Mandatory COVID-19 coverage (as of 2026).
- Validity period - covers the whole travel period.

**Russian insurance policies are no longer accepted.** Consulates refuse to accept policies from Tinkoff, VTB and other Russian companies - sometimes even at the EU border.

### Where to buy a policy

| Company | Approximate price (per year) | Features |
|----------|------------------------------|----------|
| **Dunav Osiguranje** | 2 000-3 000 dinars | The most popular, simple online issuance |
| **Grawe** | 6 311 dinars | Good price/quality ratio, online calculator |
| **Wiener Stadtische** | from 3 000 dinars | Possibility of multiple trips |
| **Uniqa** | - | Available to Raiffeisen Bank clients within premium packages |

## How to arrange insurance

### Online

On most companies' websites you can obtain a policy in a few minutes:

- **Dunav** - apply and receive the policy by mail.
- **Grawe** - convenient calculator, the final premium is shown immediately.
- When filling the form, indicate JMBG = evidencijski broj from the residence permit.

### What you will need

- Scanned copy of the residence permit.
- Passport (Russian passport is acceptable).
- For a family policy - documents of all insured persons.

### Annual policies: nuances

- **Grawe** limits a single trip to 45 days; other companies usually allow 30 or 90 days per year.
- Cost ranges from 6 000 to 17 000 dinars depending on the limit and duration.

## Bank-issued insurance

### Raiffeisen Bank

- Premium clients receive a Uniqa policy - coverage of 45 000 EUR worldwide until 2029.
- The premium package costs 340 dinars per month, the certificate is issued in English and Serbian.

### OTP Bank

- Dunav insurance is included in the business package, lasts several years ahead and covers any trips.

## Medical certificates and documents

### Certificate from social insurance (CROSO)

You can obtain it:

1. Through the portal <https://portal.croso.gov.rs> (login via eid.gov.rs).
2. By email - info@croso.rs, attaching a scan of the residence permit.

The document is called **uverenje o istoriji prijava osiguranika** and is required by entrepreneurs when applying for visas, as well as by employees to confirm work history.

### Certificate from APR (Agency of Private Registries)

Required by entrepreneurs in visa procedures. It is issued online or at APR offices and confirms the status of a business owner.

## Visa types and insurance

- **Tourist** - policy for exact dates or with a small buffer. For a multi-visa a yearly policy is more convenient.
- **Work** - sometimes an extended coverage and a health certificate are required; check the specific country's requirements.
- **Student** - coverage for the whole study period; many universities offer group policies.

## Common mistakes

- **Coverage limit** - websites often show the minimum; verify that it meets Schengen requirements.
- **Validity period** - get a policy with a few extra days; otherwise the consulate may reject the application.
- **Full set of pages** - when printing the policy, all pages are needed, not just the cover.
- **Family policy** - the limit is shared among all insured persons; sometimes it is cheaper to get separate policies.
- **Signature and stamp** - some consulates require originals, not scans.
- **Translation** - it is better to receive the policy in English from the start to avoid translation issues.

## How to use the insurance while traveling

One community member spent 700 EUR at a clinic in Europe, and **Wiener Stadtische** fully reimbursed the expenses in dinars within two weeks.

Russian insurance policies often face problems: poor roaming, lack of mobile apps, and outright refusal of service in EU countries.

## Medical care in Serbia

### Public system

- Serbian compulsory health insurance (obligatory medical insurance) covers treatment in Germany and other EU countries.
- To obtain certificates you need to book an appointment with a doctor at a polyclinic; international insurance can be arranged through the public system.

### Private clinics

- **Medgroup**
- **Belmedic**
- **Euromedic**
- **Generali** (check-ups and diagnostics)

### Emergency care

- **Urgentni centar** - 24/7 ambulance service.
- Large hospitals often have multi-level parking; an alternative is the parking lot at **Sveti Sava**.
