Description
Trnava Monastery The Trnava Monastery is located in the settlement with the same name within the municipality of Čačak in the Moravički District. In this village there is a temple of the same name located at the source of the Trnava River and on the especially beautiful slopes of the Jelica mountain. It is dedicated to the Annunciation. This part of Serbia and the surroundings of Čačak are rich in history that culminated in the construction of the monastery, so we suggest that you include them in your plans when you come to visit. It is believed that the monastery was built in the 13th century, during the reign of the Nemanjić dynasty. The Serbian king Stefan Uroš I is mentioned as the founder of the monastery. In the Middle Ages, there was a temple at this location, founded by the Nemanjićs. The Trnava monastery was later built on its foundations. The first restoration of the temple was carried out in 1554. Later, during the renovation work that began in 1837, conservation work was also started.
