Bulgaria became a full member of the Schengen Area in March 2024, so its visa is in high demand among Serbians. Compared with other Schengen countries the requirements are simpler, and the chances of approval are higher.

- Indicate the number of applicants, full names, purpose of travel; passport numbers and EBS from the residence permit can be added, but it is not mandatory.
Slot situation: appointments are already booked for July-August 2026. Slots are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, replies usually come within 1-2 days, but sometimes they may be delayed. "Gaps" in the schedule appear only in emergency cases.

Important: the consulate serves only residents of the following districts: Bor, Začar, Jablanica, Nišava, Pirot, Pčinja, Toplica. If your registration is in another district, apply for the visa in Belgrade.
Required Documents
Core Package
- Application form (Harmonised form) - filled in English, printed on both sides of the sheet. The latest version contains the EU flag and the "Other" option in the gender field. You can request the current form from the consulate.
- Passport - copy of the main page and all pages with visas (if any); the original is needed only for verification.
- Proof of residence permit (temporary or permanent) in Serbia - copy of the card (both sides). A reported-out card is not required.
- Photograph - 1 piece, 3.5 × 4.5 cm, colour, white background; the second photo is returned.
- Insurance - minimum coverage of 30 000 EUR, valid for the entire stay. Serbian insurers (Grawe, Generali) are recommended. Russian insurers are better avoided.
- Financial documents - see the separate section.
- Tickets/transport - for air travel - ticket reservation; for car travel - traffic permit + vehicle registration; for rented car - rental agreement.
- Accommodation - paid hotel reservation or a lease contract notarised; when staying with friends/relatives - a free-form invitation.

Additional Documents (may be requested)
- In Niš they often require: a certificate from the workplace (for employees under a labor contract), a registration decision for a sole proprietor (for entrepreneurs), a business-account statement, a PIO certificate of employer contributions.
- In Belgrade: they may ask for the sole-proprietor registration decision, but it can be sent later by mail; work certificates are usually not required.
Translations: marriage and birth certificates from Russia do not need to be translated - originals are accepted. Serbian documents are also accepted without translation.

- Officially: up to 15 calendar days.
- In practice: 8-20 days, depending on season and workload.
- In high season it may take up to a month. Expedited processing is not provided.
Collecting the Issued Visa
- Come on the visa-collection days (Mon-Thu, 14:00-15:00) after receiving the readiness notice.
- One person can collect visas for the whole family. The visa is affixed on site.
Visa Types
Tourist (C)
- Single entry: issued for specific dates, usually with a small buffer of days.
- Multiple entry (multi): granted when you own property in Bulgaria, have several trips planned within a year, or are an experienced traveler (not the first visa from Serbia). Durations - 90/180 or 90/365 days.
Transit
- 2 entries, validity ≈ 10 days. Requires documents showing the final destination (tickets, reservations in a third country).
National (D)
- Application is normally made in the country of citizenship; exceptions only with permission from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Successful cases from Serbia are rare. Ministry processing time - 60-75 days.
