Main Requirements and Documents

Practical Nuances

White Cardboard and Registration

After entering Serbia, register at MUP within 24 hours and obtain the white cardboard. It is required for submitting the residence permit application. Once you receive the plastic residence permit card, the white cardboard loses its validity. When changing address, contact MUP - the fee is about 400 dinars.

Passport Change

The residence permit card does not show the passport number, but the link is stored in the MUP database. When you replace your passport, update the residence permit as part of the regular renewal. Some consulates may ask for correspondence between passport and residence permit, so keep a copy of the old passport.

Renewal and Transition to Permanent Residence

Residence Permit Renewal

Submit the renewal 30 days before the current permit expires, using the same document set. If the requirements are met, the period can be extended longer than the original term.

Permanent Residence

After 5 years of continuous residence with a residence permit, you can apply for permanent residence.

Bank Accounts

To prove financial means, prepare statements for 3-6 months and balance certificates. Sole-proprietors - separate statements for business and personal accounts.

Residence Permit Application

1. Submitting after the 90-day visa-free period has expired.

Visa Applications

1. Residence permit younger than 6 months - many consulates reject.
2. Income does not match the basis (e.g., sole proprietorship but income only from Russia).
3. Insufficient ties to Serbia - consulates check the intention to return.
